Navigator of Stock Chart available in other charts
Your silverlight Timebar is Briliant.

I suggest you implement something like that(maybe a litle less complex) in KendoUI.

Hello,

You can see how this functionality can be implemented in the example below:

Create Stock Chart Navigator in Categorical Charts

Hi Aaron,

Indeed, the type for the data visualization of the chart should not be of importance. You could tweak the example to include a multi-line chart instead of bar chart by changing the options. Check out the updated example here:

http://dojo.telerik.com/aTOyeMeb

In case this is not the functionality that you look for, could you share more details on the matter?

Kind regards,

I wish you could implement a multiple line chart for this kind.

Duplicate post with this one I think...

Thanks for the additional comments, Erik. I will communicate them back to the engineering team.

Hi Kenshin,

Thanks for the example. I modified it a little to try out a larger data set. I changed the set from 15 to 1000 items and saved it back so you can see the result. As I feared, the performance is not very good. Compared to the stock chart it's very slow. Another thing is the category axis. Whereas the stock chart always has readable values on the category axis, thisis not the case for the example with the simulated navigator functionality. Here all values on the category axis are written over each other forming a big black line.

So at this point I still feel that other charts could greatly benefit from the navigator, since in my opinion the navigator simulation is not a good solution.

Here's an example how to implement navigator and detail chart using the selection feature, Erik:
http://dojo.telerik.com/UHAy/9

Feel free to adopt/extend the example in the way needed in your scenario. The sample should scale accurately with relatively large number of chart points.

Hi Kenshin,

If you say the selection feature can be used to simulate the navigator, you're probably right. You're the expert. Maybe it's an idea to add an example of this to the Kendo UI demo's.

What I'm wondering however is if this simulated navigator would perform as well as the real navigator. The nice thing about the stock chart is that it performs well. When simulating the navigator I would need 2 charts, one for displaying all data, and one for displaying a the part of the data that I selected in the first. What I'm noticing is that displaying large amounts of data in a charts requires substantial processing. So my simulated navigator could potentially be very slow, making the simulated navigator solution non-workable. Maybe you can reflect your ideas on this.

Best regards en thanks for following up on my idea regarding the navigator in other charts,

My understanding is this feature for selecting certain time period for line and bar charts:
http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/chart-api/selection

can be used or extended with related chart to simulate the navigator functionality in the stock chart. Let me know if I am missing something.

Yes, to have this feature in all chart has lot of benefit!

Thanks for thinking about including something similar to the Silverlight RadTimebar into the Kendo UI DataVis suite. Any approximate date for releasing such control?

The navigator in the Stock Chart is great when there's a lot of data to be displayed. Therefore other charts may benefit from having the navigator as well.
